Yes, all Alton’s camping tarps are waterproof and come fully seam sealed with heat tape. We utilise a high-quality ripstop nylon with a dual silicone-PU waterproof coating that has a hydrostatic head rating of 3,000mm, capable of withstanding heavy rain and harsh conditions.
If you’re camping in environments where bugs might be a problem, then we recommend using a bug net, such as our Ultralight Bug Net Tent or any basic mosquito net for camping.
Alton camping tarps are highly resistant to punctures, tears and rips. However, if your tarp does sustain some damage, in most cases it is easy to fix.
For small to medium punctures, tears or rips, we recommend Tenacious Tape Silnylon Patches, which are specifically designed to provide the best adhesion on fabrics that have silicone coatings, such as our Ultralight 3m x 3m Tarp. Tenacious Tape Repair Tape is also highly effective and may be better suited for repairing larger rips or tears.

Absolutely. All Alton’s camping tarps are made from a high-quality woven ripstop nylon fabric that has been third-party tested according to the AS4174:2018 standard and achieved an UVE score of 96%, meaning it provides the ‘most effective’ protection when used as a sun shade*.
Regularly using your tarp in the full sun may contribute to accelerated fabric breakdown, so if you are planning on using it as a sun shade, we recommend treating it with Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarProof® Spray to help protect the fabric against UV damage.
*When shade fabric is used for purposes such as shade structures for human protection, the ultraviolet effectiveness (UVE) may not be an accurate guide to the protection provided and may be less than the measured value due to factors including variations in design, height and size of shade structures, stretching of the fabric, the distance of the fabric from the persons, the direction of sunlight, and the physical location of the persons within the shade structure (e.g. at the edge or at the centre).

Great tarp and will be using it soon in the wild. My back yard trial was an Adirondack configuration using your telescopic poles and guys as I couldn't set up a ridgeline. Just a suggestion: even though a uniform dark colour may be aesthetically pleasing from a design perspective, practically, some bright cordage - say for guys and peg pullouts - would stand out better in low light situations, particularly when working around tree litter and dark soil.
We saw this tarp after seeing it from Abel & Victoria YouTube channel not knowing it was from Australia. Initially it was out of stock and customer service was able to tell us when it was coming back. As it did we ordered the tarp right away. When we ordered it we knew it was going to be a while until we got the tarp. But we were shocked. It arrived within the week and it actually was used during our Memorial Day weekend camping trip! We wanted to test it out and see how it would handle the harsher weather. We had cold rain and 30mph wind gust and honestly…without this tarp we would’ve been miserable. It protected us from the element so well paired with our tent. We were worried about it possibly ripping or flying away or leaking but we were shocked. We will be ordering more from Alton 100% and will continue to support this company as it has satisfied us in every way.
Awesome gear, set up was super easy and the gear held up great in the elements thanks to the extra tie out points and the lightweight made it a lot easier to carry up the hill.
Exceeded my expectations. Kept my swag dry and gave me enough room to still cook meals in some very average weather. Very quiet in the wind compared to a typical tarp. The knots in the field guide made the setup easy and packing up took seconds.
Absolute weapon, really well built. The guide only made it easier to select a setup and set it up even with zero experience. If you're looking for versatility and immersion in nature whilst shaving weight this one will definitely do the trick. 10/10 would purchase again

One of my favourite pieces of kit! Such good quality. And the tarp field guide is super useful. Used it for a tarp bivvy camp in Scotland and it held up so well. Material feels great and been trying out some different setups. Super adaptable and the paracord supplied with the tarp is amazing. Still learning the best ways to set it up but so much fun doing so. I bring it with me whenever I’m camping for additional protection or to setup a nice area for me and friends to hang out when the rain sets in. Absolutely love it!
I absolutely love the tarp, it was straightforward to setup and roll down!! I would highly recommend. The only tiny thing is to make the stuff sack a bit bigger around the opening to make it easier to put in. Other than that it is FANTASTIC.

I bought a tarp to see if I would like it and whether it would be practical to use in Tasmanian conditions or not. The verdict? After three years of use I Love it. Most of my multiday walks tend to be between November and April and I can configure it for any weather conditions during those months. Being a heavier tarp it stands up to strong winds really nicely when guyed out well. Currently I use my tarp in conjunction with a ground sheet and S2S UL bug net. I have have two main pitches that I use: 1 The half A with the rear corners tucked in This is a very roomy pitch and completely wind proof when the back is pitched toward the wind. The front can also be lowered in poor weather and closed in a bit 2 The fully enclosed hexagonal pitch Brilliant, if a little cramped, for dirty, dirty weather. Improvements: 1 Internal bivy loops which would make hanging a bug net much easier and would really be appreciated. 2 An option of fluoro coloured guy lines would also be really good. I’m forever tripping over the black ones. 3 I would also like to see an option 3 m x 2.5 m tarp. When pitched is a half A, which is my go to pitch, the 3 x 3 is just a bit too big and a 2.8 x 1.8 is just a bit too small All in all tarping rocks and I’m an evangelist. I have three tents plus the tarp and the tarp is always my first choice.

I bought this tarp recently & field tested it out bush over the weekend, honestly it's fantastic! Perfect size & tie out points for multiple configurations, I have many more to try out from the handy field guide that came with it. Brilliant quality & lightweight so it fits in my pack very nicely. Out in the bush with the 3x3 tarp over the top of my tent worked a treat, even able to get it set up as the light went away. Stretches out nicely making it taught and the included tensioner's are really good.
First time setting my tarp up I experienced I witnessed hundreds of mozzies on the out side of my bug net then being woken at 3am with a massive thunder and lightning storm followed by a torrential downpour, I thought I'd pack it in but sat it out, went back to sleep and woke up fresh and very dry.... a great bit of kit, highly recommended

Great piece of gear, never thought a tarp would be so handy for so many different scenarios, great quality, light and good looking tarp.
Great tarp. Lightweight, compact.
Fitted a spreader type tent pole threw eyes which created heaps more space inside. Also reversed guys ropes so i can tighten at tarp end . Easier to adjust and not on your knees trying to feed the guy rope around a peg half buried. Then ive tied the pegs to the other end of guy rope. Now i dont loose pegs and don't have to have the bag of pegs following me around. So i now just throw tarp out with guys and pegs attached. Easy. I then gather up pegs , fit into small peg bag, still attached, and stuff everything into stuff bag.
Stayed up in some serious wind, then rain and was great as a sun shelter. Used poles and twisted into eyelets.
Extremely pleased with the tarp - it's of high quality, featuring numerous tie-off points, and is both lightweight and versatile. The pegs and paracord are also of high quality. Initially, I thought the pegs were too small, but after using them on a 3-day bike packing trip across a range of conditions, from hard rocky gravel to soft, grassy mud, they performed wonderfully.

Just did my first overnight hike with this new tarp and loved it. I tied some extra points for extra space but when I slept I didn't even needed extra space. I can't wait to go to the next one to try other set-ups. This tarp is making me like even more tarp camping. Loved how ultralight and high quality the material feels. 🙂
