As the largest tarp in our lineup, the 3m x 4m Tarp is a great option for group activities. Offering up to 12m2 of coverage, there is ample space for several people to cook, hang out undercover, or sleep beneath it. In wet, cold, or windy conditions, it can comfortably accommodate 1-2 people in configurations such as a low A-Frame or C-Fly Wedge. The 3m x 4m Tarp is designed for use in demanding wilderness conditions. The high-quality ripstop nylon features a 3,000mm Silicone/PU waterproof coating and is seam-sealed throughout, ensuring reliable and lasting protection in wet weather. In hot, sunny conditions, this 3m x 4m Tarp functions as a highly protective sun-shield, with an ultraviolet effectiveness (UVE) rating of over 95%.

Great coverage, but extremely lightweight. Tie points are durable and conveniently located. Not only can it be used for hiking and camping, but also as an alternative to a vehicle awning. I recommend getting some lightweight poles as well, of various lengths (or adjustable lengths).
On first inspection the tarps quality and stress point hardening wowed me. Well packaged, brilliantly constructed and the perfect colour. Seriously who doesn't love olive drab? I also appreciate all the well thought out equipment that accompanied it. Two nights in the field so far and I'm very, very happy with this purchase. Remember sparks travel further than you think...
An amazing quality tarp. After a previous well known UK brand tarp failed, when two corners were torn away after using it on the first trip, I purchased the Alton 3 x 4 metre tarp and instantly noticed the high quality of all the stitching and reinforced corners. I would highly recommend this tarp.
hi all me and my son mitch went camping up near Renmark in South Australia first time using the hammocks it was great experience. We use the 4x3 tarps because of the big pattern which I think worked quite well thanks alton
I use the 3x4m tarp as cover for my swag so I can get in & out without my bed getting wet in the rain, it works great. Depending on where I'm camping, I'll also use it in conjunction with my 3x3m tarp & carbon fibre poles in different configurations. The Alton gear is so versatile & high quality, it hasn't let me down yet.

Used my Alton 3*4 tarp on a long weekend road trip. Was fantastic. Easy to set up and prevented me waking up with a heavy dew. Very impressive for its size when packed. I look forward to using it again on many more camping trips.
Great robust tarp, good quality and holds up well in high winds. Nice lightweight and packs down small.

I bought the Alton 3x4 tarp to go over my 1100 Darche swag. I've only rigged it up in a couple of configurations in the back yard so far. I'm yet to use on a trip. But looks like it will be perfect.
My tarp came as a complete setup of the highest quality
The tarp leaked on first trip through the seam sealing tape on the reinforcing patches for the ridge line loops, dripping water onto my hammock and bedding. Lucky it was in Queensland in summer and not Tassie in winter. The seam tape had come away from the tarp fabric on every support point and when I returned home I had repair every one with liquid seam sealer.
Set up in back yard to test it out and its brilliant. Looking forward to testing it in the vic high country. i set it up with ridge line attached and all guy ropes, also trialed it with adjustable poles that i have and definitely happy with how it all works. To makes pack up alot easier i leave guy ropes attached but tied up neatly. Leaving ridge line setup makes fold up and roll up of hoochie really easy to.

Sorry never took pics of our camp but we were very happy with your light weight design and ease of erection, so many options. I can downsize my camp bag by 2 bulky tarps and the heavy pegs. It is an amazing asset for camping and after watching Chris Bamman use his it offers so many different options and experiences. Thanks.
Genuine high quality product that is capable of holding up when tested. Can be ground pegged under ultra high tension with a ridge line or pole. I set it up lean-to style over my swag in KNP on one trip where it hammered rain for over 5 hours with pounding, gusting, strong winds and this tarp did not falter. It has replaced my heavy duty PVC tarp for short trips. You will not be disappointed.
Just needed a bit more room, the 3x3 is awesome and will always use it when needing a smaller footprint, but the 3x4 gives that bit more room and the ability to get a but more height for getting sorted under it (especially for old buggers like me), bit of a luxury to have both, but both serve a particular purpose - great to have the choice!
Took the tarp on a hunting trip for its maiden voyage for some shade in the daytime and to keep the dew off the gear over night. We had some really bad wind for a couple of days and I was really impressed how the tarp handled the wind as it worked hard to do it's job. It didn't stretch or tear, the dyneema guys held tight and the pegs all stayed in the ground but bent 2. Worked well for what I wanted but would like to see the dyneema guys available in a fluro colour like orange or lime so we stop tripping over them and same for the pegs either a bright colour to find them in the grass or a bright pull rope colour.
I own a 3.0x3.0M lightweight tarp and a box style mosquito net and box style ground sheet. The 4.0x 3.0M tarp allows be more room for my hike tent and box style mozzy net under the tarp. That extra metre means I have more room under the tarp to eat, cook, or just enjoy nature when the weather turns nasty.

When developing our Ultralight Tarps, we chose to use a 30D ripstop nylon with a dual silicone-PU waterproof coating as it offers the best balance of weight, durability and performance for most outdoor use scenarios.
Silnylon (silicone-coated nylon) has a little more stretch than silpoly (silicone-coated polyester), especially when wet, but in our experience this is actually an advantage. Fabrics that are more stiff can be more prone to tearing when subjected to impact, such as a sudden gust of wind, and may puncture or tear more easily if they come into contact with a sharp pressure point.
All Alton Ultralight Tarps are extremely waterproof with a 3,000mm hydrostatic head rating and come fully seam sealed with heat tape. We use ripstop nylon with a dual silicone-PU coating that provides long-lasting and reliable performance in harsh conditions and excellent durability in the field.
In most cases, fixing a ripped tarp is a fast, easy process that requires minimal equipment.
For small to medium rips, tears or punctures, we recommend using Tenacious Tape Silnylon Patches. Ensure the tarp is clean and dry, then apply the repair patch to both sides for best results.
For larger tears and rips, Tenacious Tape Repair Tape may be a better option. Cut to size and apply onto both sides of the damaged area to reinforce the fabric, then allow the adhesive to cure for 24 hours before exposing to water.

Yes! As the largest camping tarp in our range, the 3m x 4m Tarp can be rigged to provide a large area of shade in hot, sunny conditions. It’s made from a high-strength woven ripstop nylon that has been third-party tested according to the AS4174:2018 standard and achieved a UVE score of 96%, meaning it provides the ‘most effective’ protection when used as a sun shade*.
The fabric is designed to be resistant to damage from UV, but if you’re regularly using your Alton Tarp in the full sun, we recommend treating it with Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarProof® Spray to keep the fabric in good condition for longer.
*When shade fabric is used for purposes such as shade structures for human protection, the ultraviolet effectiveness (UVE) may not be an accurate guide to the protection provided and may be less than the measured value due to factors including variations in design, height and size of shade structures, stretching of the fabric, the distance of the fabric from the persons, the direction of sunlight, and the physical location of the persons within the shade structure (e.g. at the edge or at the centre).
