Great service from Alton
Product good quality works well and easy to set up.
Packs down nice and small as used for bike camping
I thought the offer of walking poles with the bug net tent was good . Truthfully I was only after a set of walking poles and thought maybe I will use the bug net tent ….. maybe as I love my Alton Hammock set up .
Again absolution no disappointment with any of it .
I can see me using it much more than I gave it thought to .
AND again Alton delivery service ….. ordered it Monday night of public holiday here at far south coast NSW by Friday .
Keep up the great work … love your gear .
The wife would like some colour change …. Can you bring back some range in the Coyote colours . Cheers
I'm happy to say Alton smash it out of the park with this bug tent , it's robustness blew me away and was exactly what I was looking for.. now I can push further see more and do it reliably.
Alton have put the time to develop these products and as a customer (we) are getting all the benefits of their success , thanks Alton for the efforts.
I've purchased multiple Alton products and can honestly give everything I own 5 stars ,compact light and robust .. you can search anywhere you want for similar products, I know I have made the mistake of using other brands and if I had found Alton first time round boy I would have saved big $ $$$ .. DONT HESITATE WITH ALTON do it once do it right ..
Thanx again Alton . I look forward to grabing more top products in the future
Pros:
* Much more connected with nature, being able to see the sunrise in the mornings is awesome
* Easy to set up
* Just enough room to sit up in
* Looks super asctetic, got a lot of compliments from hikers
* Material seems pretty high quality
* Lots of fun
* Great colour
Cons:
* Zip entrance only on one side
* Not enough width to fit a wide sleeping pad and a backpack. You can try fit it in on the side, as I did on my first night with it, but it won't be comfortable and will dig into your legs. I get around this by putting the bag on the outside on top of a camping chair to protect from bugs.
* Condensation at the leg end. My Alton down quilt had it's foot box fairly wet on both trips I've used it, and this is with the wide sleeping pad pushed all the way to the back. I believe it's the heat coming from the foot box touching the narrow end of the tent that causes this, and I don't see a way around it. It didn't cause me major issues, but did noticeably make my feet less warm than normal.
* Requires some good tree placement in order to put the tarp up the shelter, which restricts where you can set up camp. One tree is enough as shown in my photos, but due to the design, you can't use this together with Scotty's gunyah configuration or other non-tree tarp configurations. Or at least not easily.
Improvements I would like:
* Doors on both sides!
* A bit more width, or if not, a bit more length to fit the bag at the footend (I'm using an Osprey exos 58)
Slightly taller max height to sit up in the tent comfortably (I'm 178cm and my head just touches the top), and slightly taller height at the footend to stop condensation from wetting the quilt.
* A small hook to hang a lamp or headlamp
Overall, despite the cons, I'm quite happy with this purchase, as it's a lot of fun and is lightweight. Great job with the original product Alton!
Tried it in the backyard without a tarp. Would definitely need the tarp next time to reduce dew.
This kit will replace the need for my swag except in really cold weather. The only thing I’d add is another opening on the opposite side so setup option can be more varied.
I recently bought this Bug-net tent from Alton.
It's tiny size, light weight, fully enclosed set up and the $189 price tag attracted me to it like flies to a BBQ.
Throw it on the motorcycle, and enjoy🤌
It's well built, good size and gives you a sense of openness.
The entry is a tad on the small size, but it didn't bother me all that much.
Great buy👍
A great bit of kit, I haven't been able to find a bugnet tent design that I liked until this. Especially as someone who loves bushcraft, I find it really fun to go out and source sticks to set this up.
I would have loved it if there was a door on both sides, and a loop for a light to hang somewhere.
Bought it for the boat. Checked it out for size, fits perfect and very easy to set up. More than happy with it and how quickly it arrived especially considering my location
I have done a review the day I received it and set it up in my back yard .
I am very impressed with the bug tents construction and it looks like it will be a great piece of gear .
I was sceptical that I would like it but I can see it being very enjoyable alternative to tenting .
Love the walking poles . They were the real reason I bought the combo package .
As always.
Alton you have delivered .
Used it once so far alongside a mosquito and midge infested creek. When I say infested, I mean the sound of the mosquitos from in the tent was nearly deafening. Can say the tent kept them out and apart from a couple that got in with me, I had a good rest. Cant wait to try it in the boat. That's the main plan, so I can maximise fishing time.
Fantastic and lightweight, comes with everything you need. Would like to see it with a thicker base, it needs a ground tarp or foam pad between it and the ground to prevent punctures. I wouldn't mind a bit of extra weight if it saved carrying a separate ground tarp.
Excellent little bug tent! I shopped around for ages and this seemed to suit me best for my trips to Arnhem Land! It's is very well made, easy to setup and folds down very small, everything I was after in a tent!
I used this tent during the Australia day weekend during my overnight hike. It was really light weight and easy to setup (setup with hiking poles).
The 2 downside for me is; I wish it had an opening on the other side also, and the foot area is a bit low. There was some some condensation build up near the feet area which made the top side of my sleeping bag wet, if that area was taller. i think it would be alot better. or maybe nanopore technology :D.
Worth mentioning im from Melbourne where the weather is unpredictable with hot / cold, so maybe thats why i had more condensation?
In the end im very happy with the tent and will definitely be using it on most overnights where i know it wont rain or be too wet.
Awesome tent, easy to setup, super light weight.
Im 5ft10in and I could to fit the hiking bag (Osprey Exos 58) inside the tent around the head area. and still slept with enough room.
My only issue is the foot area is just a bit low and I did get a bit of condensation build up on the inside.My sleeping bag touches the inside of the foot area and got a bit wet.
Being a Nth Queenslander, I have been patiently waiting for something like this to become available. Having Astrophotography as a hobby takes me out to areas that are devoid of suburban light pollution, sometimes requiring an overnight stay. Sleeping in the back of a car or using the Ultralight Swag is one option, but unfortunately only during the colder months, so this option with a tarp overhead provides a much more comfortable option during the warmer months! So happy Alton have released this Bug Net Tent option that’s easy to setup snd pack down! And it weighs next to nothing too! A must have if braving the northern states during summer!!
Just returned from an adventure motorcycle trip through Vic High Country, the big tent was absolutely fantastic. Can’t recommend highly enough, Grant M
The design, materials and manufacture all do what they're supposed to - and they do it so well. Quick and easy to set and break camp, plus it weighs next to nothing! Alton are a class act.
The bug net tent has met all expectations - light, compact quick to erect. My only complaint- needs points to run string across - one side to the other.
