Nikwax Down Wash is suitable for untreated and treated water-repellent down-filled items, including sleeping bags, puffer jackets, and quilts. Sleeping bags and long down jackets are best hand washed in a bathtub or with a large professional machine (+11kg load capacity) at a laundromat and tumble dried. Machine washing instructions for garments:

1. Remove any detergent build-up from the washing machine’s detergent dispenser. 
2. Place the item in the washing machine. Cleaning more than one item at a time is not recommended. 
3. Add 100ml of Down Wash into the detergent dispenser. 
4. Run a 30ºC synthetic wash with an extra rinse cycle if possible and a low spin setting. 
5. If the care label allows, tumble dry on a low heat setting with several tennis balls or down drying balls. This may take several hours.
6. Hang the item on a rack in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for a further 24 hours to ensure the down is completely dry. 

Machine washing instructions for sleeping bags: 

1. Remove any detergent build-up from the washing machine’s detergent dispenser. 
2. Place the sleeping bag into the washing machine. Cleaning more than one item at a time is not recommended. 
3. Add Down Wash into the detergent dispenser, using ~100ml for 8-11kg machines, ~250ml for 12kg machines, or 500ml for +25kg machines.
4. Run a 30ºC synthetic cycle with an extra rinse if possible and a low spin setting. 
5. If the care label allows, tumble dry on a low heat setting with several tennis balls or down drying balls. This may take several hours.
6. Hang the sleeping bag on a rack in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for a further 24 hours to ensure the down is completely dry. 

Hand washing instructions:
IMPORTANT! Wear gloves. 

1. Fill the bathtub with 12-15L of lukewarm water and add 100ml of Down Wash. 
2. Immerse the item in the water until saturated and leave to soak for at least 5 minutes. 
3. Knead and agitate the item to clean, focusing on any areas that seem particularly dirty. 
4. To rise, drain the bathtub and refill with clean water, then gently agitate the item. Repeat this process several times until the water appears clear and soap-free.
5. Gently press out water from the item. If air-drying, drape it over a rack or lay on a flat surface. 
6. Once partially dry, begin to carefully tease apart clumps of down by hand and fluff up the item every few hours until completely dry. 
7. Leave the item out in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for an additional 24 hours before packing away or using.
