Finally got to put the kit into action and loved my Alton hammock setup, with (-5C) underquilt. I bought a hammock set (without underquilt) for my twin brother a while back and he got a little chilly in the early hours of the morning. However, I was toasty with my underquilt - barely needed a top quilt or sleeping bag at all. Legitimately one of the best sleeps. Another mate sleeping in a one man tent was adamant that he wanted to get a hammock setup for himself after the trip.
I recently used this on a 3 night hike up in the Victorian high country where we were trekking up a creek system fly fishing the whole way.
Being where we were flat ground was somewhat of a rarity and not suited to a traditional hiking tent. The hammock sleep system was light, easy to set, comfortable and kept me dry through a cracking thunderstorm.
Only complaint I’d have was that I was too warm when first getting into bed with the underquilt, but was most great full for it in the early hours of the morning when the temperature really dropped.
Unfortunately I don’t have any good pics of it set up on our trip, pic is of my trial set up when I was testing everything out.
Used this setup twice once was a really hot night and couldn’t use the under quilt the other time used with the under quilt, was perfectly comfortable in a reasonably chilly night with quite a bit of wind. Feels extremely high quality and worth every cent.
I have had trouble with sleeping whilst hiking, pretty sire this hammock setup is the answer i have been waiting for. Spent four nights so far & once i got the correct angle, sweet as. One of the nights it rained, dry as under the tarp, next night about 2deg & windy, cosy as. Great setup.
Couldn’t help but pull the trigger on the full ensemble. The finish on each piece of Alton goods kit is outstanding. The stitches are solid, tarp can take a beating, even the compression / storage pouches are well made. This setup stayed high and dry while camping in a torrential downpour - the same can’t be said for those who brought tents!
Tested out the -5C insulated set along with the -5C top quilt in subzero temperatures down in Canberra just last night, and boy I tell you that I'd have a hard time getting such a comfortable sleep in a tent as I did in the hammock. Great gear that you can truly feel the quality in, as someone who has experience with a lot of different gear (albeit this is my first hammock). I really appreciate the level of adjustment you get with these hammocks, and the ability to set up virtually anywhere. Compact and light enough to take during the day, overnight, through hiking, camping, or just in your car to quickly pop out to relax in and read a book. Got myself some extra hardcord and paracord while I was at it, and the quality of that cordage is fantastic for the price, love the reflective Dyneema. I managed to squeeze all of the hammock gear as well as my gas stove, food, water, knife, saw, and other miscellaneous gear into a bag that really is only designed for day hiking, to take on this one-night trip. I plan on doing through hiking with it once my new pack comes in (the old one is well and truly gone). Get the groundsheet too, or even a couple, as they really add nothing in terms of weight or space, but give you the ability to be that next-level cosy under your tarp. Can't recommend it highly enough, also check out Adventures With the Marine on youtube for some useful hammock tips and tricks. Cheers
Great product - first setup in the wild, and survived two storms. Everything held up well, kept me bone dry and snug as a bug, despite the temperature dropping to around 2 degrees Celcius overnight. Can't recommend it enough for anyone looking to try something new - you'll have the best sleep of your life :)
This system was my first hammock set up, and its been amazing. It's easy to set up, the under-quilt is toasty warm even with wind and rain. But most importantly it's a comfortable night sleep off the ground. I'm not sure if i can go back to tent camping after this.
This was a total game changer. If you had asked me a few years back about hammocks I would grumble and groan, remembering how cold I got, and how much I hurt the next day with muscle chills. Now I use the -10 insulation and I have not ever slept so well in my life. I've now purchased a frame and this is what I use for sleep in my own house. My bed is actually not being used.
Quality stuff my alton goods, the last thing you want when you go outdoor camping and the product fail you. This set is high quality, light weight, and one less worry when I go outdoor camping, many thanks for the quality product!
Had never camped with a hammock before. Now I am sold on the complete system. Purchased a -10 kit, which arrived last week and was immediately put to good use. I made some adjustments over the first few nights and now am a happy camper. Love it!
