Dyneema® Ultralight Tent - 2P

Whether or not a Dyneema® tent is worth it for you depends on how and where you camp. 

Because Dyneema® Composite Fabric (DCF) tents are considered the gold-standard when it comes to strength-to-weight ratio, making them some of the lightest shelters available. This makes them ideal for thru-hikers, alpinists, and serious adventurers who regularly push the limits of their performance in challenging terrain. 

In these cases, where every gram has to earn its place in your pack, a Dyneema® tent can be one of the best investments you can make.

Yes. Dyneema® Composite Fabric (DCF) is waterproof, provided the seams are correctly bonded or taped. DCF uses a laminated construction that doesn’t absorb water and doesn’t degrade in wet conditions. It’s inherently waterproof, and doesn’t require DWRs or other waterproof coatings to add water-repellency.  This means the fabric won’t wet out or gain weight from soaking up moisture, and never requires treatments to replenish the waterproofing.

There’s a lot of buzz around Dyneema®, and for good reason – but it’s not without its downsides. 

Dyneema® Composite Fabric (DCF) is a premium material, and that’s reflected in the price. Additionally, the manufacturing process requires specialised knowledge and equipment, which also contributes to the price.  

DCF is capable of outperforming all other fabrics in terms of tear resistance – but if a rip or tear does occur, it can spread more quickly than it would in a ripstop nylon or polyester. Fortunately, if a tear does occur, DCF tape can be used to quickly and effectively repair the damage; in many cases, a torn dyneema tent can be restored to full functionality with minimal effort.  

When it comes to tents and outdoor equipment, DCF gear is known for being less resistant to abrasion. Because of this, we opted to use Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.75 (25gsm) to give our tents extra protection whilst staying ultralight.

Dyneema® 0.75  is made to be more abrasion-resistant and durable than the sub-22gsm variants found in many ultralight shelters, which means it can have better longevity and be more reliable in high-use scenarios.

Knowing how to properly clean and care for your tent is an important outdoor skill and can help keep your tent functioning for longer. 

After each trip, we recommend unpacking your tent and allowing it to air dry in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Leave it until it is completely dry, as packing it away while damp can damage the fabric or lead to mould growth over time. 

At the same time, take the opportunity to give it a spot clean. To do this, shake or brush out any debris, then use a soft cloth with a cleaning solution that’s formulated for outdoor gear, such as Nikwax Tech Wash®, to clean any dirt or marks you can see on the fabric. 

If a deep clean is required, this should always be done by hand. Fill your bathtub or a large bucket of water with lukewarm water and add some suitable technical wash, using the dilution ratio specified on the bottle. Work over the fabric using a sponge or soft cloth, then rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue. Gently wipe off the excess water with a towel first, then hang on the clothesline or on a rack and leave to air dry completely.
