Versatile, Practical & Lightweight
Building shelters. Setting up tarp ridgelines. Making emergency gear repairs. Replacement shoe laces. Hoisting equipment over challenging terrain. Hanging food bags safely away from wildlife or securing loads around camp. Long story short, 550 Paracord is one of the most versatile, useful items you can carry with you in the wild.
No-Frills Functionality At Its Finest
Originally developed to serve as military parachute suspension lines, 550 Paracode is designed to perform in extreme situations when gear failure simply isn’t an option. Whether you’re setting up camp deep in the backcountry, practicing bushcraft skills, or making emergency repairs, this high-quality Paracord delivers for strength, reliability and durability in demanding outdoor environments.
Built for Long-Lasting Performance
550 Paracord features a tightly braided outer sheath made from durable nylon fibers, forming a smooth and durable protective layer that resists abrasion and maintains flexibility even after repeated use. This braided construction helps the cord handle tension, friction, and knotting without fraying or weakening easily. The result is a cord that remains dependable over time, even when exposed to rough handling, damp conditions, or prolonged outdoor use.
Multipurpose 7-Stand Inner Core
Alton’s 550 Paracord features a 7-strand inner core, each made from high-quality nylon fibers. These strands add significant structural strength to the cord while also providing extra versatility when needed. In bushcraft or survival situations, a single length of paracord can be broken down into multiple thinner cords that can be used for smaller, more precise tasks.

I bought this paracord just before a weekend away as I had heard it had many different uses. When we got to camp, I found we had brought bass lures, (we were camping on a creek), but no rods. Now paracord has 7 inner strands, each of which can be broken down into a further three strands. I cut off about 1.8m of paracord and used 4 of the 7 inner strands to make about 20m of fishing line. One end was tied to a pasta sauce jar, (from last nights dinner), and the other to the lure. We tried trolling in the kayak in the arvo without success, but when I went the next morning, we caught a 31cm bass! Praise God. And it was well and truly strong enough to be fishing line. It’s good stuff
Great bit of kit. Good length at 15m as I needed a new ridge line for the new bug net and this added next to no weight and did the job just right. Thanks Alton.
My collection of Alton goods gear is slowly growing and growing. I started with the titanium grill and a few of the little gear bags before adding the tarp, the ground sheet, extra cordage. Whatever these guys make I am convinced it is excellent quality. The prices are great and very easy to deal with. I have recommended the brand to many people and will continue to do so. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic paracord. High quality, very easy to cut, and burn ends to seal it off. Also very easy to separate into smaller fibers if needed in certain situations.
Have bought from Alton a couple of times now! Always awesome service and love my ultralight tarp and the extra paracord is quite handy to have in the pack. Definitely planning to buy more goods in the future
Not much to say here. Good quality line. I recommend purchasing this along side the tarp for to use for a longer ridge line just in case trees are spaced widely
