2015
Sam creates his first prototype of what will become the Ultralight Hammock, builds a website, and starts packing orders from his bedroom.
Since 2015, Alton has been proud to equip adventurers with industry-leading gear that’s functional, durable and built to last. Here’s our story so far:
Sam creates his first prototype of what will become the Ultralight Hammock, builds a website, and starts packing orders from his bedroom.
Sam quits his accounting job and invests everything into the business. The garage becomes HQ.
An Aussie Youtuber, Scott Williams, buys one of our hammocks and shares positive feedback about it in a video. Later in the year, we launch the first version of our 3m x 3m Tarp.
The business has outgrown Sam’s garage, so he relocates into a warehouse in Geebung, QLD. Shortly after, he hires his first ever part-time employee.
After several years of steady growth and adding over 20 new products across the range, it’s time for a rebrand.
Two full time employees join the team and we relocate to a bigger warehouse in Brendale, upgrading from 180sqm to 800sqm. After over a year of development, we finally launch the Walkabout Swag, featuring Nanoporeâ„¢ fabric technology.
Alton wins a Good Design Award for the Bug Net Tent. In May, we open our own retail store onsite at our warehouse in Brendale.
The Walkabout Swag wins Gold at the 2025 Good Design Awards. We release our 1P and 2P tents, including an ultralight Dyneema® version. A third full time staff member, a Product Development Engineer, joins the team.
Because of the support of adventurers like you, Alton is continuing to grow. Our team is expanding, we’ve got more products in our range than ever before, and there are big plans on the horizon. So if you've made it this far, thanks for being a part of our journey.
