I am writing to you to give you a brief update on my recent career change.
At the end of last year I completed the marathon that is the Chartered Accountants program. After getting my results and finding out that I had passed, I ran away to Japan for a couple of weeks to spend some time skiing and contemplating what I was going to do next. Somewhere on the powdery slopes of Hakuba I began developing an itch. For the last few months I scratched that itch until I couldn’t take it any more. Two weeks ago I worked my final day as an accountant in public practice … for now.
As you may know, for the past few years I have been working on a ‘side hustle’ called Alton Goods. Alton Goods is an outdoor brand that develops high-quality adventure equipment built for exploration and currently specialises in the production of ultra-light travel hammocks. This project came to life when my passion for retail met my love of the outdoors. From its inception in 2015, Alton Goods has always been a side project, which has covered its costs . In the back of my mind though I have always had a dream to make this project something bigger.
Having always told myself that there is no time like the present, I have decided to take a break from accounting and commit the next six months to investing every minute of my time and every dollar in my bank account to scratching my itch and turning my dream into a reality. I am now working full time for Alton Goods!
I am excited about what the future has in store for me and I am ready for the inevitable challenges that it will bring. I plan to keep you updated as the business progresses and our range of products expands. If you would like to help me out, it would mean the world to me if you:
