British explorer Alastair Humphreys pioneered the concept and coined the term 'microadventure' which is recognised globally as - an overnight outdoor adventure that is 'small and achievable, for normal people with real lives.'
This meant that majority of the hike was completed in darkness.
We hadn't planned on going nocturnal but we enjoyed the different perspective. As the sun set and our vision faded, a new world was waking up around us. We opened our senses to the challenge. It was unfamiliar - but exhilarating. With the help of our headlamps we reached the campsite at 9pm. It wasn't long before dinner was out and the stories were flowing.
Less than 24 hours later - we are back in our inner city apartment planning our next getaway.
Don't let real life get in the way. Escape the mundane. Go on a microadventure.
