All of our Kerouac Hammocks come with a set of carabiners and and a set of anchor ropes, so all you need for the basic set up is your choice of hammock. We have a large variety of colours to choose from.
Alton Goods Sleep Straps are an alternative to the anchor ropes that come standard with our hammocks. They are made from polyfilament (like a no-stretch seatbelt material). The design is called a daisy chain and has 13 attachment points on each strap.
Your hammock will come with two aluminium wiregate carabiners on the ends that you can use to attach to whatever strapping or connecting device (ropes, webbing, etc.) for the objects you are using as your mounting points.
With that being said, our Sleep Straps make the set up process extremely quick and easy.
You don’t need any knowledge of knots, the Sleep Straps simply wrap around your object and tighten on themselves.
Once you get your Straps tight around your mounting objects, you are left with several loops that hang off giving you almost endless possibilities to where you can hang your hammock.
Rope isn’t necessarily great for a tree’s bark either, but our wide and flat Sleep Straps are a lot gentler on trees.
Check your gear before each use to ensure it is in good, working condition.
Do not leave your hammock outdoors or exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. Store it in its attached stuff sack in a cool, dry space when not in use.
In set up, make sure that anchor rope knots are tight or straps are securely wrapped and the carabiners are closed. Press your hands into the hammock and place weight upon the
hammock and support structures. Bend at the knees and place
additional weight into the hammock. Ease your weight into the hammock while remaining
on your feet. Once you are in the hammock, transfer your weight
off your feet and into your hammock.
While hammocking, remember to remove any sharp objects from your pockets, i.e. knives, car keys or jewellery.
Remember: using any hammock carries inherent risk. Accidents happen. Be sensible and use with caution.
